Console branding of a video game

Anyone who has purchased a video game over the last 15 years will be aware that there are multiple consoles on the market each has its own format, media & individual requirements.

Because of these differences in the consoles when a game is released on multiple platforms each format's software needs to be identified this is done by a specific branding usually at the top of the front cover.

I have chosen to do my game cover for the XBOX360 which is shown directly below but i have also listed a few other current & historic format branding images.

XBOX360

Sony PSP

Sega Megadrive

Sega Master System

PC DVD

Some games have their branding down one side below are some examples of this.

Playstation 3

Nintendo Game Boy Advance

Creating the cover

After doing my research I started to look at what I could use on the front cover that would
A) Capture some of the feel & look I wanted
B) Look current and contemporary and not out of place on a game store shelf
As many of the images I used to capture the look and feel in my previous probably would not have the impact and clarity required for a video game case I decided to distill down the ideas and try and find objects in Formula one that represent them.
The first image I chose to use was one of a Ferrari Formula 1 car.

The reason for this is there is possibly no other better visual symbol of passion, fandom & competitiveness in motor sport than ferrari.
This image will be cut and positioned at the bottom of the case.
I have also decided to use a image of a raging fire that the image of a formula one car will be layered over. This was chosen because I feel that it captures explosively, energy & also lends itself to passion and competitiveness.

I will experiment with different colour layers and effects to see what will be the best colour for  the fire.
